A Richmond-based startup company that wants to revolutionize how visitors experience museums and historic sites has raised $1.3 million in investments. ARtGlass, a maker of augmented reality software for smartglasses, said Wednesday it had completed an angel investment round with significant backing from investor networks and individuals in Virginia. ARtGlass was co-founded by husband and wife Greg and Marion Werkheiser. The company provides software that enables historic and cultural sites to provide visitors with special transparent smartglasses that can be used during tours and superimpose 3D images or text on a landscape or objects. Earlier this year, the historic home of President James Monroe near Charlottesville started using the ARtGlass technology, which was introduced by the company at cultural sites in Europe.
